Don't we all love to spend our time in the pool to take a break from the summer heat? When we visit a pool, before getting in we must make sure if it is safe enough. It is very difficult to find out if a pool is free from any water borne diseases.
Here are a few tips to help you determine if a pool is safe enough to get in:
- Before you swim or let your children get inside the swimming pool, check the water clarity. A clean swimming pool will have clear and blue water. You should be able to see the swimming pool floor clearly. Cloudy or greenish water is a sign of contamination and can cause skin irritation or other diseases.
- The most reliable way to check the safety of a pool is by testing the chemical levels of the pool water with pool test strips. Get your pool testers from Captain Nemo's Pool and Spa. When you check the pool levels, your chlorine has to be at least 1ppm, bromine at least 3ppm, and pH levels should be between 7.2-7.8.
- Pools which contain a heavy chemical smell indicate the presence of chloramines. Chloramines develop from a mixture of chlorine, sweat, dead skin cells and other waste, and is responsible for causing eye and skin irritation.
- To ensure the cleanliness of the pool and hygiene of the people always take a shower before you get in to wash off any germs on your body. Do not get in the pool if you have an open wound.
Make sure you clean and maintain your pool on a regular basis.
