The pH is a scale that is used to specify the acidity or basicity of pool water (or any other fluid). The scale is numbered from 0 to 14. Your scale will show a reading above 7 if the water is alkaline, and below 7 if the water is acidic. A pH of 7 means that the water is neutral. When you test your water, you must look for a reading between 7.2 and 7.8 to ensure that the water is safe for swimming.

What will happen if my swimming pool has low pH?

A swimming pool with a low pH means that it has harsh water that can damage the mechanical components of a pool. Low pH means acidic water that will irritate and lead to a burning sensation in the eyes and on the skin. It can also damage your pool liner spoiling the way your pool looks.

What will happen if my swimming pool has high pH?

High pH means that your pool water is basic. In such a situation, the chlorine used in the pool will not be as effective as it is supposed to be, allowing a rise in the growth of bacteria in your pool. It can also lead to skin irritation, lime precipitation and cloudiness of the water.
