18th Dec 2018

For those of us who are lucky enough to own a pool or a spa, we know just how much enjoyment and fitness they can bring, but often we don't really understand what the pool chemicals do, other than what the pool shop tells us to do.

Basic pool chemicals explained | Gold Coast | Brisbane | Captain Nemo's Pool & Spa Supplies

Here, Captain Nemo's thought we would decipher the world of basic pool chemicals so you can have a better understanding of what the chemicals you put in your pool actually do.

Chlorine

Chlorine is responsible for sanitising your pool water. The chlorine molecule or ion kills any harmful micro-organisms by breaching the cells walls and destroying the inner enzymes, structures and processes.

Stabiliser

Stabiliser, when added to the swimming pool bonds with the chlorine to minimise the loss of the chlorine through the suns UV light.

Alkalinity Balancer

Balancer helps to keep the pool waters PH balance so the water does not cause eye or skin irritation to swimmers.

It also protects the pool from unbalanced water which could result in corrosion and damage to the pool.

There are wide range of other pool chemicals available depending on the condition of your pool water which can be determined when you have your pool water tested at a Captain Nemo's pool shop.

Products to bring PH up or down, calcium up or down, algaecides, even products to keep ducks out of your pool, are all available at Captain Nemo's Brisbane and Gold Coast pool shops.

Our expert team will guide you on the use of these pool and spa products, so call us or bring your pool water in for testing and we can chat to you about it then. We are open 7 days a week!
